The summer months are often a challenge in recruitment.  Decision makers and candidates disappear overseas, not just for their 2 weeks of annual leave, but now, with more companies offering ‘work from anywhere’ as a summer option, they are often away for 4-6 weeks.

The question we’re hearing most at the moment is “How can we secure the right people before summer distractions slow everything down?”

Our answer: Speed up the process now –there is still time to recruit.  

Market update:

The job market remains steady, with local groups and government making the most hires

Focus on upskilling, more and more companies are working confidentially with us to replace ‘dead wood’ – employees who are holding them back from moving forward.

Quality candidates are still moving quickly – especially in Finance and Tech – but it is still a challenge to hunt out the quality people amongst the huge influx of very average candidates.

Employers believe that because there are so many candidates, they have the luxury of taking their time. However slow hiring processes are resulting in losing strong talent, as more nimble companies are snapping them up.

Flexible and hybrid roles are being filled faster – they attract a wider talent pool. Companies not offering any kind of remote working are often losing out to the best talent.  It has become a highly sought-after benefit.

Blocking interview slots with busy decision makers before going to market is saving time in the interview process. Do you really need more than 3 interviews? Can you ask key decisionmakers to join the same interview?

We’ve seen several businesses miss out on their first-choice candidates recently – not due to salary or experience, but due to slow feedback from the interviewers, and sometimes getting to offer stage when the budget has not even been signed-off.

Globally, the average recruitment agency job fill-rate is just 30%. 70% of jobs go unfilled, and many of those because the hiring process was not slick enough on the employer’s side, or the jobs get put ‘on hold’. That’s also a lot of wasted time for busy hiring managers.

A tight, focused process, working exclusively with a specialist recruiter = stronger engagement + better outcomes.
